TLC Will Release First New Album in a Decade

By Jeremy Holcombe Leave a Comment

TLC-New-Album

It looks like the ladies of TLC are trying to make a comeback, minus the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes of course. It has been over a decade since TLC has released an album and it seems that current members Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas are finally ready to put some new music out. That being said, is there any room for them in today’s music landscape?

There are several reasons behind the girls wanting to come back, however, it seems part of the appeal and resurgence has to do with their original mentor L.A. Reid. It seems they have partnered back up with Reid, as well as LaFace Records to release an as-yet-untitled compilation Oct. 15 featuring the group’s hits as well as a collection of new songs.

The new album will include a bunch of their greatest hits as mentioned, but the girls have been working on some new music as well with some pretty big names. While there was no word on how many new songs the album will have, there is already word that at least two new tracks have been written: “Meant To Be,” written by Ne-Yo, and “Posh Life,” written by Lady Gaga and longtime TLC collaborator Dallas Austin. Several other new tracks are in the works and the names that have been dropped for these other tracks include Drake, and some hoped-for further pairings with J. Cole, who recruited T-Boz and Chilli for current single “Crooked Smile.”

There is probably plenty of room in today’s music industry for new music from TLC. After all, they are the biggest selling female R&B group of all time, and even after a decade has passed no other group has been able to touch their mark. When asked about the landscape for new music T-Boz added:

“Not one artist has said no, and that’s amazing and a blessing… You know, we’ve been gone for a minute. But to see everyone coming to us like, ‘Yo! We heard y’all working, I gotta be down!’ That’s amazing.”

We can all look forward to that new album this October (October 15th to be exact). There may be another string of hit singles ahead for the ladies of TLC so keep an eye out for some of their new stuff to drop soon.
