Ten Best Musical Moments from Full House

Full House is among one of the most loved shows of the late eighties and early nineties so it is no surprise that the Netflix reboot, Fuller House, has been highly anticipated by fans. Full House followed the family dynamic of a single dad (Danny Tanner, played by Bob Saget) raising three daughters (Stephanie, DJ, and Michelle) with the help of his two friends (Uncle Jesse and Uncle Joey). The show featured a wide range of supporting characters as well including the annoying but lovable neighbor, Kimmy Gibbler, and Uncle Jesse’s girlfriend turned wife, Aunt Becky. One aspect of the show, though, that was ever present but not as widely discussed is the music of Full House.

The music of Full House is a character all its own, ever evolving throughout the series and showing up in a variety of clever ways whether through performances by the regular cast or guest appearances by artists such as the Beach Boys and Little Richard. Many times it was a song that ended up being the thread that tied a whole show together, making music an integral part of the story line throughout the series. Many of us who were younger when the show first aired thought that Jesse and the Rippers were a real band and we would sing along to their songs such as Forever and Michelle Smiling. We all loved when Stephanie followed in Uncle Jesse’s footsteps and started her own band, Girl Talk. And who can forget the antics of Uncle Jesse and Uncle Joey during their radio show, The Rush Hour Renegades? From concerts to recitals to bedtime lullabies, music was as much a part of Full House as the family the show depicted.

It is difficult to pick the best musical moments from Full House because they are all special in their own ways and important on different levels depending on what was going on in the show at the time. I have gone through the various musical moments featured throughout the show and compiled what I believe are ten of the best moments when music took center stage.

10) Teddy Bear – Danny, Uncle Joey, & Uncle Jesse

This song really showcases John Stamos’ talent at impersonating Elvis Presley, which was something that was played on throughout the series.

9) My Girl – Danny Tanner

This was one of the sweeter moments from the series when Danny Tanner sang My Girl with Jesse and Rippers for his oldest daughter, DJ.

8) Kokomo & Barbara Ann – The Beach Boys featuring the Tanner Family

This was one of the more unbelievable moments of the series but was still one of the most memorable. But really, when was the last time that your whole family sang with the Beach Boys?

7) (You Make Me Wanna) Shout! – Uncle Jesse & Scott Baio

One of the things that I always loved about Full House was their use of oldies music. This is just one of my favorite examples of a classic song being sung by the cast of the show.

6) Michelle Smiling – Uncle Jesse

This song was one of my favorite originals to come from the series. Not only was it sweet but the lyrics said something that I think we can all relate to when thinking of the children in our own lives:

“The news is on and Michelle is laughing. Can’t make sense of what the pictures show. She knows no fear. She keeps on laughing. If we could only know what Michelle knows…Michelle smiling.”

5) I Saw The Sign – Girl Talk

You’ll never be able to hear this Ace of Base classic again without thinking of Girl Talk. You’re welcome.

4) Keep On Knockin’ – Little Richard with Jesse and the Rippers

This is another unbelievable but amazing musical moment with a legend.

3) Don’t Go Breakin’ My Heart – Derek & Lisa

Who could forget this amazing performance by Michelle Tanner’s friends, Derek and Lisa? These kids are super talented and they completely nailed this performance from their vocals down to their dance moves. And Uncle Joey as Elton John is the perfect addition.

2) My Generation – Danny Tanner with Jesse and the Rippers

Remember when Danny tried to prove to DJ that he was cool by performing The Who? Thankfully he toned it down the his earlier mentioned My Girl performance instead. This was still memorable for fans of the show, though.

  1. Forever – Jesse and the Rippers

Any true fan of the show has seen the music video for Jesse and the Rippers original song Forever. It was performed several times throughout the series during special moments making it the most memorable song of the show for many fans.

Whether the reboot Fuller House will be as musically inclined as its predecessor has yet to be seen. But based on how much of a part music played in Full House I really don’t see how they could revive the show without including it somehow as a central theme. The only music news that we have gotten so far regarding Fuller House is that the official theme song is being performed by pop star Carley Rae Jepsen. The show is set to air on Netflix starting February 26th. Minus the Olsen Twins who played Michelle Tanner, the entire cast is expected to make appearances in the series. I for one can’t wait to see what musical guests they may have in store for their fans.
